About to launch its 26th event, this year the Monaco Yacht Show will be hosting 125 extraordinary superyachts. All of which are one off models, designed and constructed by the world’s most prestigious shipyards. This year the landmark calendar event brings together 580 exhibiting companies that present their most innovative superyacht builders and designers. Always innovating, 2016 also brings new and welcome additions to the show that include supercar marques amidst the wider showcase of luxury manufacturers and reputable brokerage firms.
Yet, keeping to the festival’s many elaborate traditions, this year as in every past year, the event is to be held at the iconic Port Hercules, the Principality’s ultra-glamorous docking port. His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco will be in attendance and as is tradition, this year will see another 40 new yacht debuts that are expected to be unveiled for the world to admire. With an incredible lineup of events and activities on offer we take a look to see what’s in store.
Undoubtedly this year's highlight is the Monaco Yacht Show Car Deck which will be located alongside some of the largest and most expensive yachts on the Quai Rainier III in Port Hercules. With strong semantic links between yachts to supercars, it only seems natural that this prestigious show would have an arena dedicated to the world’s most exclusive and prestigious supercar brands. Spread over 230 m², the Car Deck will welcome visitors with its indoor bar-lounge and a display of prestige cars for purchase or a test drive through the glamorous streets of Monaco. Representative cars are set to include the young and dynamic Dawn from the House of Rolls Royce Motors, the high performance Huracan LP 610-4 Spyder from Lamborghini. A sporty and pure electric Model S P90D will be presented by Tesla Motors, while the French refitters Centigon, will be presenting their enhanced Range Rover Autobiography (+30 cm) and a dazzling Mercedes Benz Class S550 (+65cm).
On your arrival you will be greeted in the Upperdeck Lounge where you will be welcomed with breakfast and views over Port Hercules as you plan your day of yacht visits and exhibition meetings. Should you have in mind to make a purchase, corporate leaders of exhibiting companies will be in attendance along with well-appointed private meeting rooms available to discuss the details.
Also located in the Upper Deck Lounge is the exquisite Fairmont Monte Carlo Restaurant that will have a unique menu available for each day of the event. Over a scrumptious lunch take the opportunity to network amongst world leaders of emblematic luxury goods. Representatives in attendance will include Ulysse Nardin who will be sporting their full collection of watch brands from Hammerhead, Shark and the Annual Calendar. Also in attendance is the aeronautical construction firm Dassault Aviation, which will be celebrating its 100th birthday.
By sunset walk over to the Champagne bar where you will be able to savour rare vintages from the French house of Lanson. The perfect warm up before joining the evening festivities that are to take place on board the spectacular yachts.
The Monaco Yacht Show Captain and Crew Lounge will be offering light recreation and refreshments away from the main hive of activity taking place at the show. Welcoming all captain and crew of Superyachts, they will be able to enjoy top-flight catering services whilst chatting with colleagues, playing with games and inflatable toys, listening to music or enjoying a health care treatment of facials and massages. The perfect reward for your yacht’s dedicated team of naval professionals.
With the price range starting at €5 million and gradually escalating to a whopping €100 million, some of the yachts on offer are certainly worth taking a look out, even if all you are going to be doing is “window shopping”. Here is a list of some of our favourite picks;
Baglietto 46M Fast: Characterised by strong and aggressive lines, the lead gray shade of the hull summarises a look of powerful determination for this latest model from the Naval architect, Baglietto S.p.A. With an interior that was designed in partnership with Francesco Paszkowski, it possesses a combination of tradition and innovation. Standing out with its rakish lines and streamlined bow, it has exceptionally comfortable fittings that show off its softer side.
Achilles: Standing prominent and unlike anything you could possibly associate with the proverbial heel, the Achilles is an impressive and high powered yacht in immaculate condition. The interior is spacious and luxuriously decorated with warm colours and a modern design. Produced by the italian Sanlorenzo, it has a price tag ranging from €5 to €20 million.
Athena: Exuding majesty and elegance in every detail, Athena blends the art of traditional yachting with modern yachting technology. Crafted on the unique and combined talents of Pieter Beeldsnijder with Dykstra Naval Architects, this 90 meter long yacht has a three mast schooner that has an expanse of 2,500 sqm of sail power. With a market price value that could see it sell for €100 million, it is complete with in mast furling for the topsails and in boom furling for the carbon fiber gaffs.
Taking place from the 28th September to the 1 October this is a show that you do not want to miss out on. We recommend arriving looking smart with your own luxury car rental!
