Match On: Ferrari F12 Berlinetta Vs Lamborghini Aventador

Apr 04, 2016

Welcome back to our “Match On” series where we compete two similar high performance cars against each other. Last time it was a spin off between the top electric-powered supercars of the Tesla Model S P98D and the Porsche Mission E. In that episode we pitted them against each other in a stiff battle of beauty, wit and daring. This time we take two great legendary Italians, the Ferrari and the Lamborghini, for a final and ultimate determination of which racing beast is best.

While there are a lot of drag races that pitch cars against each other, very rarely are they evenly matched in terms of their engineering design and high performance driving capability. But this race between the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta and the Lamborghini Aventador, makes for a stiff competition between two exceptionally high performing supercars, that are both top of the range within their respective marques.

The stunning confines of the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta

Ferrari F12 Berlinetta

  • Engine: 6.3-liter V12
  • Horsepower: 730 hp
  • Torque: 509 lb-ft
  • Transmission: 7-speed automated manual
  • Top Speed: 365 km/h
  • 0-100 km/h: 3.1 seconds

To begin with the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta may well be a beautiful car, but far more than just a pretty face, she is also one of the most powerful and high performance Ferraris on the road. From the confines of her stunning design lines, she purrs a magnificent growl giving you an indication of the beast preying beneath the bonnet.

Considering the engine configuration details cited above, the Berlinetta puts out a maximum power of 545 kw at 8,250 rpm. The layout of this Berlinetta has a shorter wheelbase than in previous models, so that the front seats are low to the ground and the rear is quite compact. Perhaps not entirely practical, no one ever said that a Ferrari is intended for the everyday family school run. Clearly there has been a focus on driver orientation in the design of the F12 Berlinetta, where there has been an optimisation of space with slim-lined seats that effectively create a sporty driving experience. Yet, in case you didn’t feel like an F1 legend already, all the driving instruments are ergonomically laid out around the steering for enhanced driver accessibility.

A drive is satisfyingly intuitive as the car seems to anticipate driver handling, perhaps all-too dangerously inspiring a confidence even at maximum speeds.  Some of the highlights in technology include F1 inspired traction control, Stability Control (ESC) and an advanced braking system that each work together to focus power to the road in a highly efficient and intelligent way. Furthermore, Ferrari’s new carbon-ceramic braking system (CCM3) has a built in optimised cooling system that vastly improves the stopping power.

Unashamedly luxurious and boldly powerful, the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta is an award winning supercar that delivers a thrill like nothing else.

The attention-grabbing Lamborghini Aventador

Lamborghini Aventador

  • Engine: 6.5-liter V12
  • Horsepower: 691 hp
  • Torque: 508 lb-ft
  • Transmission: 7-speed semi-automatic
  • Top Speed: 349 km/h
  • 0-100 km/h: 2.9 seconds

No meek and mild creature of the road, the attention grabbing Aventador demands to be admired as much for its futuristic and aerodynamic design, as it does for its electrifying speeds. Widely considered to be the best and most high performing Lamborghini ever built, this supercar immerses its every driver in the ultimate driving experience.

With its highly impressive specs, a drive is surprisingly user friendly for a beast pumped-up with this much power. Steering is light and precise, the electronically controlled all-wheel-drive system puts excellent traction and grip on the road, while the carbon-ceramic disc brakes seem to possess a mighty stopping power. Yet the key factor behind the smooth ease of the drive may well be the single-clutch seven speed semi-automatic transmission that moves between gear changes ridiculously fast.

The lightweight carbon-fiber body of the Aventador was designed by Lamborghini’s own Centro Stile who used beautifully iconic scissor doors, a deployable rear spoiler and enormous cooling vents to give this supercar its widely conspicuous and dramatic style. Inside the cabin, nothing gets modest, as the jet-plane inspired design is maintained. A stunning TFT instrument cluster and central navigation display are fitted in, giving an impressive futuristic look. While the low positioned, heated athletic sports seats certainly don’t hurt to cultivate this image either.

Not skipping a beat, the brilliant Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 sets the pace for the future of the high performance supercar, and does so, with a highly enviable style

The video selected pits these two supercar vehicles against each other in an incredible performance. Provided by GTBoard.com the video shows the two V12 beasts tear down a rural highway in a final determination of which car is the ultimate Italian king of speed.

The question is of course, which of these two models would you rather be racing? We invite you to give us your opinion below.

For your next trip to Italy, both of these two supercars are available for rent. Yet being the exclusive Italians that they are, you better act fast, as both the Ferrari and Lamborghini are certainly known for going places!
