While developments towards realising the first autonomous car are steadily picking up steam, we are still many years off from having the world’s motorways filled with self driving cars ready to transport us from one location to the next. With the most reliable estimates of the widespread use of self-driving cars set for around 2030, there seems to be little point holding out until then. In the mean time, there is a lot of new car technology that is bound to become more commonplace in 2016 that is certainly worth getting excited about.
Traffic Jam Control - Car sensors that are being developed are becoming increasingly intuitive whilst requiring less involvement from an operator as they ease the grind out of the daily commute to the office. The sensors use camera and radar systems to detect distances around them and then automatically applies acceleration or braking as required.Self Parking - With the use of this same sensor technology mentioned above, many of the car’s expected to roll off production lines in 2016 will be able to swiftly and neatly park themselves. While the operator is still involved to indicate a parking space available and gently operate the accelerator and brakes, the car is able to do all the spatial relations work in terms of adjusting itself into the spot.
Tyre pressure monitors - Your new car of 2016 will be able to detect if you have a flat tyre (or for that matter a deflating one) and notify you well before any permanent damage is done.
360 degree cameras - As rear view cameras now come as standard with some models of cars. Luxury cars to stay ahead of the market will be incorporating 360-degree cameras that will provide the driver with a bird’s eye view of the vehicle you’re driving.
Stop-Start Systems - With international carbon emission targets becoming an increasing pressure point for manufacturers, new cars are increasingly designed to cut their engines when they are stationary. The impact is making fuel consumption better as well as achieving its objective of lowering carbon emissions.
Apple Carplay and Android - The new apple carplay and its equivalent in the Android will become a lot more prolific in cars moving into 2016. In many new luxury cars smart phone apps are already available on a touch screen that is situated on the dashboard. Allowing commuters to be able to chat, message and maintain social media sites all en-route.
These best thing about these technology features is that they’re really just the tip of the iceberg as luxury cars continue to pave the way for even more advanced features still to come.
