We heard the rumours and the gossip and we even saw the concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2013, but now all is confirmed, as Jaguar released its F-Pace SUV crossover about town, allowing the public to grab happy snaps of the impressive vehicle. This is to be the first SUV produced by the prestigious house of the racing leopard.
Due to be formally launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show this coming September, there is wide anticipation and a sure applause as the silk cover is to be lifted off the SUV’s sleek silhouette. After announcing plans to design and construct its first ever Sports Utility Vehicle at the North American International Auto Show in 2015, the result reflects a pinnacle of achievement as the crossover four wheel drive is infused with features.
Composed of a lightweight aluminium exterior, integral-link rear suspension, double-wishbone front, and comfortable interior, the five-seat SUV offers a spacious ride. The drive system includes an electric power assisted steering that offers more control than standard hydraulic systems. The braking technology utilises torque-vectoring, a feature that has been siphoned from the Jaguar F-type sports car. The all-wheel-drive system is on-request, ensuring that this car is as smooth as it is safe. Smooth and safe, two critical features that address Jaguar’s new targeted audience for which this vehicle was designed, and that is families.
The highly expensive and exclusive Jaguar marque has historically been associated with celebrities and athletes in the likes of Steve Gerrard, who imbue its vehicles with an image of power, poise, and precision. Many critics are concerned that the move into the SUV segment may well compromise this image status, especially as it seeks to target families. But so far the feedback from the public has been an enthusiastic appreciation for a family-focused Jaguar that can also packs its punches.
