Got a ditch to pull yourself out of, a streaming gorge to traverse or a rocky mountain pass to climb through? Well the solution to them all has arrived in the form of the Toyo Tires Ferret. Far more than just your usual four wheel drive, this six wheel beast sources an LS V8 engine from Chevrolet and has its smooth suspension taken care of by King Shocks. The additional 2 wheels are engaged while passing over difficult terrain by engaging the hydraulic motors. Perhaps the most dramatic part (although that’s certainly debatable) is the action man inspired central turret that launches a grappling hook that is attached to a winch.
No one ever said that normal is fun and this car is about the furthest thing you could get from normal in a single drive. The Ferret represents a combined effort that brought Toyo Tires pairing up with Action Vehicle Engineering and the Off-Road celebrity champion, BJ Baldwin who brought together in this video, produced one hell of a ride!
Interestingly, this Toyo Tires Ferret was modelled on the original 1959 Ferret Scout that was built in the UK, that version of the tank only had 6 wheels and hosted a short stroke inline six cylinder engine that was sourced from Rolls-Royce.
