McLaren has released teasers of the prototype of its new supercar, the McLaren P14 which is meant to replace the 650S and is twice as efficient as its predecessor. The new model will apparently be called 720S as a reference to its engine horsepower (bhp). This 2 seat supercar targets its closest rival, the Ferrari 488 GTB which packs “only” 661 bhp. The P14 - nicknamed “Junior P1” is a real aerodynamic wonder reportedly powered by an advanced 4 liter V8 twin-turbo engine, it should accelerate to 100 km/h in less than 2.8 seconds and reach a top speed exceeding 340 km/h.
From a first glance at these spy shots, we can see that this new McLaren supercar is a stunner. The first model of the McLaren’s new Super Series features a dynamic and aggressive design enhanced by a sharp nose and new gull-wings doors. The P14 has a new carbon fibre chassis (known as Monocage II Structure) which reduces its weight (less 18 kg than the 650S) and makes it stiffer and more rigid, a wider cabin entrance for easier access as well as a new cockpit layout. The computer systems includes 12 extra sensors which ensure a better grip of the road while preserving the feel of the car. The cooling of the car has also been improved by 15%.
The McLaren P14/720S is the first of the fifteen two-seater and sports cars to be launched by McLaren till 2022 under the label Track22 Business Plan. Its starting price is reckoned at $280,000 before options whereas a future spyder version would cost an extra $20,000.
To get the full picture, there are only a few days to wait until its official debut at the 2017 Geneva motor Show on on March 7.
