The New York Motor Show Hits the Road

Mar 28, 2016

Since this past friday the New York Motor Show has been open and in full swing, presenting to eager crowds more than 1,000 cars and trucks on display. The motor show has featured the newest vehicles, among them numerous futuristic concept cars across more than four floors. After all, this is the show that is regarded to be the “largest display of automotive innovation in the country”.

Some of the new models on display include the highly awaited Audi R8 Spyder, that living up to expectations, looks and feels as good as it sounds.  There was a debut from Jeep with the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk that is a welcome, if not perhaps a little predictable, addition to the Jeep lineup. There was also a belated curtain rise on the John Cooper Works Convertible, which possessing its own unique character as an open top cabbie, doesn’t have any real competitors to steal away its limelight. From the new-kid-on-the-block is the Genesis Hybrid Sports Sedan Concept, the upmarket brand from Korea’s Hyundai manufactures. All the more impressive when you consider the premium marque was only established last December.

The house of Mercedes Benz dropped several “bombs” on the show, ensuring that the 10 day event is never to get boring. Missiles included the GLC 43 AMG, a pent up SUV crossover that puts out 362 horsepower, a topless turbo temptress in the form of the latest edition AMG C63 Cabriolet who did well to hold the public’s gaze and the Mercedes AMG E43 an executive luxury sedan. Considered to be the “middle child” it was launched as part of the plan to extend the range of  AMG vehicles, which it has, only creating even higher expectations of what is to come.

With this crop of vehicles amidst the many more on display, the show has already been regaled as a total hit. Show goers have especially enjoyed the interactive workshops that are pitched at youngsters. Hosting an “Education Week”, school aged students are welcomed to take part in a series of fun and educational challenges that range from simulated driving experiences to games about planning and plotting driving journeys around the world.
