Perhaps all concept and not much practicality, without question the Rolls Royce Concept car took the top spot at BMW’s 100th anniversary celebrations. Tagged the Vision Next 100, the concept was revealed to be a self driving car with all the bells and whistles that you could expect from a car that is pushing forward the frontier of next generation automotive luxury.
Thrills include “red carpet” lighting that automatically rolls out for when passengers depart the car, 28 inch wheels encased in squared off fenders and a reflective strip that crosses the entire top surface, together these features give the car an admiringly retro-futuristic look. Inside, there is just one rather sumptuous sparkling beige sofa that extends across the width of the car. On the other side is a screen in the place of where you would suppose the steering wheel would have gone.
Said to use the full suite of self driving technology, Rolls Royce advised that the car is to have zero emissions - how they get there however, wasn’t disclosed. Instead the “driver” is a pleasant and intelligent sounding voice, named Eleanor. She is said to embody the luxury aesthetic quality of Rolls Royce whilst also directing the car’s autonomy. Controlling the navigation and driving, she can be customized to remember preferred routes and destinations as well.
While not available today, it is likely it won’t be available soon either, rather the point of creating this concept was to show what luxury vehicles may look like in another 20 to 30 years from now. For your chance to take a glimpse of the future, the Vision Next 100 is on display at the BMW Group Future Experience in London from June 18 – 26.
