The Vision Mercedes Maybach 6

Aug 21, 2016

They’ve done it before and they’re doing it again. At the risk of sounding repetitive Mercedes Benz is about to launch another mind dazzling Mercedes Maybach Concept. Only this one seems set to throw a shroud of tedium over all its predecessors. The all-electric, self-driving concept coupe tagged the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 has both “sensual purity and aerodynamic efficiency”. No less rhapsodical the car is said to possess a mix of “hot” emotional designs and “cold” intelligent details. According to the words of Daimler AG’s design head Gorden Wagener.

This latest Maybach is due to make its official debut at the Monterey Car Week, where festivities get underway this week at Pebble Beach. Undoubtedly, it will be noticeable immediately with its exceptionally long elongated body that extends 6 meters long, thus the source of the number 6 in its title. The composition of the elongated design, low roof and the rear position of the cabin all pays homage to the coupe of a now bygone era.

Gullwing doors that lift upwards give an aerodynamic look, that perhaps secondary to that also allow easier access. The front passenger seats get a panoramic view as data is displayed on the windshield for an augmented reality driving experience. A seamless interior has the dashboard wrapped into the door panels and the seats, a design that Mercedes calls its ‘360 lounge’.

As for the ‘cold’ design elements of the car’s technology features the all wheel drive all-electric powertrain has four electric motors that combined create 550 kw of power and 738 horsepower. This power production puts the Vision 6 on a rank of supercar performance levels, indeed it will race from 0-100 km/h in under 4 seconds and reach a capped top speed of 250 km/h (or 155 mph). Yet, these strides of speed do not compromise on range, as it claims to travel 500 km (310 miles) on a full charge or 100 km (62 miles) in five minutes. As to the circumstances that will allow you to test that claim we're not quite sure, but the point is, it can do it.  Recharging happens either the “old fashioned” way by being plugged in or by a wireless induction system, should you have the setup at home.

While all concept at this stage, it seems probable that this batmobile lookalike will remain a fantasy for most of us.
