Despite the seeming similarities with their predecessor, there is significant mechanical differences that came with the incorporation of the MLB evo platform. The most potent model in the range is the 2017 S5 Coupe that can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 4.7 seconds. The S5 is driven forward by its newly developed turbo V6 engine, neither does it compromise on fuel efficiency with a count of 32.2mpg or 7.3 liters per 100 km. The four cylinder models which have the reduce powered 3.0 liter TDI V6, can be selected with either a 6 speed manual or a 7 speed dual clutch transmission. A more powerful 268hp model of the 3.0 liter TDI V6 and S5 model are available with an eight speed automatic gearbox. Those interested can request to have a rear axle sport differential installed to enhance the handling on both models.
There has been some attempt to give the all new A5 coupe a unique visual identity from the A4 on which it is based. To start with there are new headlights that have a more precise shape and curvy bodywork as if just to make sure everyone will recognise this car immediately as a coupe. Despite a longer wheelbase and wider tracks, the new Audi A5 is still impressively 60 kg lighter than its predecessor and boasts a class leading drag coefficient of 0.25.
Little has been spared on the interior of the A5 which welcomes passengers into a spacious cabin compartment (the perks of an extended wheelbase). The dashboard has the same look and feel as the A4, including the continuous air vent strip, ambient lighting and the same virtual cockpit display. The infotainment system is on an 8.3 inch display screen which is controlled by a rotary pushbutton on a touchpad.
To the interest of families, what may really give the A5 coupe its appeal is the added safety features. The latest active safety systems that the A5 is able to boast include the Stop&Go adaptive cruise control with traffic jam assist, the cross traffic assist rear, collision avoidance assist and the Audi Pre-Sense systems.
The new Audi A5 and S5 coupe is scheduled to be launched in Germany around Autumn time.
