Take a drive through the breath-taking scenery of Bourg Saint Maurice from Tignes to Grenoble. Head out westwards from Tignes for a two hour trip to the beautiful city of Grenoble. This picture-perfect city is crossed by two rivers, the Drac, Lion, and the Isère, Serpent, and is surrounded by three towering mountains, the Belledonne, the Vercors and the Chartreuse.
The city is known for its scientific research centres and has a diverse population of foreign scientists and students.
Culture lovers will be delighted at the range of museums and galleries. Visit the Natural History Museum and the Musée Dauphinois. The Musée Archéologique de Grenoble is a unique archaeological site with over 3000 artefacts and objects. Take a fun ride in the cable car and see the town from above while sitting in a plastic bubble! Stop at the top at the Bastille Hill.
Grenoble is the walnut capital of France, so a tea with a small walnut gateaux smothered in walnut cream is a must. Relax in the beautiful Parc Paul Mistral in the center of the city. Watch the kids roller skating rink and locals playing street hockey and then take a walk along the quiet tree-lined avenues.
Head off for dinner to the Restaurant Les Terrasses, 10km out of Grenoble. It boasts two Michelin Stars and superior cuisine. Order the Vercors trout or Voiron antésite. Wash it down with a local speciality, Chartreuse. a herbal liqueur made by the monks of Grande Chartreuse, a monastery high in the mountains near Grenoble.
