With a wide array of technological innovations, the Ferrari 458 Speciale delivers outstanding performance and an intense driving experience that makes it the brand’s most high performance V8 ever manufactured.
Under the hood, the 458 Speciale comes extraordinarily equipped with a mid-rear 4.497 cc V8 with an ability to produce 605 cv at 9000 rpm and with a specific power of 135 cv/l, a world record for a road-going naturally aspirated engine. The powerful engine has a unique and seductive sound that for the sports car aficionado is like music to the ears.
The 458 Speciale can propel from 0-100 Km/h in a mere 3.0 seconds and is capable of achieving maximum speeds of >325 Km/h. In order to achieve these impressive marks, engineers at the factory carried out comprehensive refinements to all the components, optimized combustion, volumetric and mechanical efficiency and drew heavily on its extensive F1 knowledge at the design, process and control stages. Specific changes included optimization of the combustion chamber fluid-dynamics, new intake geometries, a new cam profile, new materials for the pistons and the con-rod bushings, a redesign of the crankshaft geometry and the intake system.
A 1.5 coefficient, a steering response time of 0.060 seconds and lateral acceleration of 1.33 g are each the highest ever achieved in Ferrari production car history.
Active aerodynamics played a fundamental part in designing the exterior of the Ferrari 458 Speciale. Two vertical flaps and a horizontal flap below them at the front and center of the car open and close depending on the speed in order to reduce drag. The thickness of the glass used has been reduced to cut weight, while the rear windscreen is now a Lexan© panel.
Inside, the 458 Speciale features lightweight exclusive materials, like Alcantara and carbon-fibre that give the cockpit a striking racing-inspired look, while still exuding the sense of craftsmanship and sophistication typical of all Ferrari interiors, with hand-stitching, aluminium tread plates and fluidly sculpted door panels. The cabin’s ergonomic layout is enhanced by the carbon fiber bridge that extends over central tunnel section, putting the F1 gearbox controls at an ideal angle to the driver. The seats are padded with a breathable 3D fabric for remarkable air circulation and comfort.
