Many automakers, particularly in the USA, are enjoying top sales numbers that they haven’t experienced in more than a decade. The benefit of having lots of cash pumped into the automotive industry, is that innovation blossoms as automakers fuel technological advancement. That means more fun and interesting cars on the road for us to look forward to that are also likely to be safer and greener. Here is the list of the most anticipated cars for 2016.
Jeep Compass: Jeep has plans to replace outgoing compact SUVs, the Compass and Patriot. For a long time they have been weak links in Jeep’s product line up, failing to compete with other SUVs of its type, like the Ford Escape. However the Jeep brand, from the Cherokee to the Renegade, is still going strong. Thus a new vehicle in this category, with an edge on technology, luxury and driving dynamics could still bring colour to their expected sales spreadsheets.
BMW 7 Series: More than just a car, this luxury sedan has a lineage. Since the first 7 series model came out in 1977, this has been the car to dawn the implementation of new technologies, styles and innovations. No less the latest model to be delivered to clients in 2016 is a 4 wheeled mobile package of highly advanced features. From fully autonomous parking to driving sensory capabilities, the BMW 7 continues to push the edge of new automotive technology.
Jaguar XE and F-Pace: After a period of stagnation, Jaguar appears to have taken a turn for the better in the recent launch of the XE sport sedan and the F-Pace SUV. An effective move that will put the British luxury brand into the two majour sectors of the luxury market. Imbued with a highly stylish design and luxury finishes the XE sports car will compete with models such as the Mercedes C class and the BMW 3 series. The F-pace marks the first sports utility vehicle to be manufactured by Jaguar. A drastic move, but one that is being copied throughout the luxury segment after Porsche achieved such wide successes with the Cayman. Mind you as a first attempt, it’s certainly not a bad effort.
Mercedes-Benz E-class: The closest we have to date towards reaching the pinnacle of a driverless car. The E-class boasts a wealth of capabilities towards this end, being one of the first cars on the world’s roads with autonomous driver-assistance systems that are thoroughly tested and safe. Yet despite these evolutionary accomplishments car experts still have reservations, "It'll be interesting to see how Mercedes makes the car special when the experience of driving it is secondary," an opinion expressed by Stephanie Brinley an IHS Automotive senior analyst. Indeed for a car this is a novel predicament, but one where we think the E-class still has what it takes to succeed.
