The electric vehicle industry has had a slow start, but it seems as though finally, the industry is seriously pushing forward with the development of battery propelled cars and Volkswagen is not staying behind.
After years of success, rumor has it that Volkswagen is planning a huge revamp of its mythical van, the Volkswagen Microbus (also known as the Type 2, Kombi, Camper, Transporter…)
Ever since its initial launch in 1949, the iconic hippie van has had multiple versions, but none like the one expected next year.
Not much has been released about the new design, but undoubtedly, the new van will have a modern look, without stepping away from its characteristic design. Volkswagen will surely be applying every piece of technology available for electric cars and according to sources, VW will borrow technology from the Audi R8 e-tron and the Audi e-tron quattro concept, which will allow the van to run for about 400 to 500 kms between charges of its ion-lithium battery.
We’ve heard that Volkswagen is planning the release of a first prototype not during an auto show, but during an electronics show, the Consumer Electronics Show to take place in Las Vegas next January. Production is expected to begin in 2018 at the company’s factory in Puebla, Mexico where the Golf and the Beetle are manufactured.
