Explore the Fort Carre in Antibes
The Fort was built on the orders of King Henry II in the late 16th century. It was used as a defensive outpost and a sentry post for Antibes, being the last French port before the border. It features a classic star-shape of four arrow-head shaped bastions. In the 1680s, Vauban worked at strengthening Fort Carré, he added traverses to protect against recoil fire. It was later modified to accommodate 18 cannons.
