This impressive fortress is dominated by a round tower that dates from Bergamo's days as a Venetian outpost. La Rocca performed a military function during the brief Napoleonic period from 1797 to 1814. Today, it houses part of the city's famous history museum, the Museo del Risorgimento, and is surrounded by a park with lovely views over lower Bergamo. Climb up to the top to see a panoramic bird's eye view from the tower's summit. Then head off for dinner to the Taverna Valtellinese where traditional meat dishes are the speciality.
