Read more“No longer shall bells ring, no stone shall be put on stone, nobody shall be host, under pain of unnatural death”. And with those words, Bishop Vidulf of Como put a curse on Isola Comacina, the only island in Lake Como, in 1169. Since then, every man who tried to occupy the island died a tragic death, until 1947, when Benvenuto Puricelli braved it to open the now legendary restaurant Locanda dell'Isola Comacina. With the performance of a nightly ritual of “exorcism by fire” involving the burning of a pot of brandy, then adding sugar and coffee before serving, no patrons of the establishment have been known to die of food poisoning or otherwise, due of the bishop’s curse.
The unparalleled experience combines an outstanding location with a stunning view of the lake, an abundant and simple meal of rustic flavours, and the choreographed ritual that is the pièce de résistance. A set menu including eight antipasti, grilled trout, sautéed chicken, cheese, dessert, brandied coffee, and all the wine and water you can drink, have satisfied the palates of patrons like George Clooney, Sir Richard Branson, Sir Elton John, Brad Pitt, Madonna, Matt Damon, Jennifer Aniston, Sylvester Stallone, the Beckhams and other celebrities.
Although only accessible by small boat, make your way to one of the villages surrounding Lake Como aboard the Lamborghini Huracan and catch a boat from there.
