This massive statue of Christ was submerged and cemented to the sea floor of the Mediterranean over 50 years ago. It commemorates Dario Gonzetti, and the first Italian divers to use SCUBA gear, who died during a dive near the spot in 1950.
Drive to the local dive shop in Portofino and get all the information and gear that you need. The statue is 2.5m tall and stands in around 15m of water, so this is an easy dive for the family. The sight is quite amazing as you swim downwards and see the massive Christ standing with his outstretched arms in the crystal clear blue water, on a rocky outcrop covered in green moss.After drying off, enjoy brunch at the Da O Batti restaurant, just off the main square. It is famous for freshly prepared scampi, smothered in lemon, butter and herb sauce.
Visit an Abbey that can only be reached by sea or foot
After cruising along the A12 and being thrilled by the roar of the engine, take a break and explore by boat. Park your Lamborghini Urus for passer’s by to admire and set off with a local fisherman to the Abbey of San Fruttuoso. It is located in a small bay, nestling under a steep wooded hill and can only be reached by sea or along a hiking trail. This beautiful white washed building was built in the 10th Century and features an ancient Roman cloister and a fascinating history museum.
Drive to Rapello and take a ride on the cable car
Drive to Rapello, a short distance away. Here you will find the Rapallo Funicular, a great treat for the children. The cable car takes you up the mountain, offering breathtaking views over the Bay. Visit the magnificent Sanctuary of Our Lady of Montallegro, built in the mid 1500’s.
