Head out of Gibraltar as far south as you can go to discover Tarifa, a fabulous venue with beaches famous for kites and windsurfing. Load your friends into a Luxury Van rental in Gibraltar and head of to the Coast of Light, Costa de la Luz, on the southern most tip of Spain.
When you arrive, get a taste of history at the Puerta de Jerez, the main entrance to the Old Town. This is the only surviving gate of three. See the Castle El Guzman el Bueno a magnificent medieval structure built in 960AD. Climb the tower for 360 degree views of the town and the Straits of Gibraltar. Visit the Gothic Church San Mateo.
Then set off for the beach. Watersports is what you do here! The bay is ideal for windsurfing with the Poniente wind from the Atlantic and the Levante wind from the Mediterranean. Try some kite surfing and take a lesson if need be. If you prefer something more relaxed, rent a paddle board and make your way around the bay. Scuba divers can explore the beautiful pristine depths of the blue seas.
Head for Café 10 where you can relax and order home-made cakes and coffee. After the treat, set off on a whale and dolphin-watching tour on a boat in the Straits of Gibraltar.
When getting back to dry land, view the Abandoned Military buildings. This area was guarded by heavy guns and military batteries. Learn about the heroic stories before driving to La Plaza de Los Lances in Tarifa West. Choose a cosy bar, sit on the terrace, enjoy the sunset and live music.
