Take in the culture of the small village of La Romana, it is surrounded by vineyards and marble quarries. Explore the cave dwellings that are still in use. Visit the market and local shops and pick up some unique souvenirs.
The road calls again. Cruise down to Alcoi, where rock paintings and fragments of Greco Roman pottery can be admired. This little village is noted for its lovely, traditional Spanish architecture. See the Barchell Castle, dating from the 12th century and the imposing baroque church of Santa Maria. This little town is famous for its Moors and Christian Festivals, take part if you can!
Back in your van, drive on towards Novelda for a wine experience. The vineyards in the region are known for their innovative, green farming. Take a wine tasting tour at a three hundred year old farm. Visit the Gaudi inspired monastery of Santa María Magdalena and the Moorish Castle of the Mola which has a strange triangular tower. The Museum of Modernism will delight those with an eye for art.
Head back to Alicante for a light meal at the famous tapas bar, Cervecería Sento. Top quality montaditos, little rolls, adorned with all types of grilled delights will put a smile on your face!
