Visit the fabulous Musée D'Aquitaine that exhibits Gallo-Roman statues and relics dating back 25000 years. Walk along Sainte-Catherine Street and climb the 243 steps of the tower of Saint-Michel to enjoy a bird's eye view. Historians must not miss the Victory Arch, a great example of the town's Roman roots. Spend some time at the Jacques-Chaban-Delmas lift bridge, it features a lifting deck, which goes up to 53m to enable cruise ships to dock close to the Quinconces Square.
Now drive out into the country to the major vineyards of the region, Saint Emilion, Canon Fronsac, and the Médoc. The beautiful rolling hills and fresh air will give you a new lease on life. Drive along the magnificent Gironde and discover that the Left Bank is best known for its red wines while the Right Bank is known for its whites. Take a guided tour and learn about the age-old art of winemaking, planting, harvesting and bottling. Do some tasting and learn how to compliment wine with the correct cheese.
Head back to the city for dinner at Cafe du Port. It offers the ultimate view with the Left Bank on one side and the Pont de Pierre on the other. Try something way-out from the famous chef Philippe Techoire. The roast pig's feet with mustard is for the brave!
