Pass the small commune of Le Lavandou which lies on the Mediterranean Sea and offers lovely beaches and small coves surrounded by pines, mimosas, eucalyptus and palm trees. Continue to Toulon where you will be enchanted to find an ancient medieval Old Town filled with narrow streets leading to a harbour and a promenade. Old wooden boats bobbing on the waters make for perfect pictures.
Take a ride on the Téléphérique du Mont Faron cable car. It will lift you up to the peak of Mont Faron, towering 584m above the town. The views are spectacular. At the summit you will find the Mémorial du Débarquement de Provence. This sobering monument commemorates the Allied landings of Operation Dragoon, which occurred here in 1944.
Take a ride in the fun tourist train which leaves from the port and does a round trip while you relax. Lunch must be at the fabulous Les P’tits Pins. This elegant brasserie has a philosophy of using fresh seasonal products, cooked simply, 'to make you rediscover the pleasures of homemade'.
After lunch, stroll around in the Place Puget, where you will find a lovely fountain built in 1780 with three sculptured dolphins completely covered by ivy. End your day at a small café on the square.
