When you arrive in Bremen head straight to the Rathaus, the Town Hall. If is one of the best preserved Town Halls in Europe and has been included on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Take a guided tour before setting off to the 1200 year old Dom St Petri. This magnificent building dominates the main square and has an impressive interior with fine painted details on the ceilings. For great city views, climb the southern tower.
See the Statue of the Knight Roland who features in history as a protector of the city. This massive statue is carved from limestone and stands over 10m high on a base and canopy on top. Statues of Roland appear all over Europe but this is the oldest surviving one.
Get lost as you stroll around the Schnoor area. It is filled with twisted lanes, small shops and a hotel that claims to be world's smallest. The Hochzeitshaus-Bremen has only one room!
Settle down for lunch at a small café in the popular Viertel area. Order a traditional dish of Grünkohl, or kale with a Beck's Beer. Then set off in search of more sweet treats. The city is known for it famous Kluten, cubes of peppermint, partly covered in chocolate.
Spend the night at the 5-star Swissôtel Bremen before setting off back to Hannover.
