Continue your drive on the A11 to the coast and stop at Forte dei Marmi, a distance of around 40km. Forte dei Marmi in Tuscany is a popular playground of sun, sea and sand. Head for the beach and enjoy a stroll along the Pontile, a long pier that offers fabulous views of the city, the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Alps.
Forte Dei Marmi is known locally as the Fort of Marbles and was an important marble deposit area in ancient times. Located near to the wharf are the remains of the original Marble Warehouse which is worth a visit. The centre of the town is also filled with amazing marble sculptures. Enjoy a bite at the Gran Caffe La Corte, it is a popular spot for movers and shakers to park and show off their exotic cars while sipping espresso.
Porto Venere is a seaside town known for its natural setting
Nature lovers will be in heaven at Porto Venere. It is located near to the Porto Venere Regional Natural Park, which offers walking trails, stunning beaches, caves and diving sites. Enjoy a sail on a local fishing boat to the Island of Palmaria. Here you will find caves to explore and ancientmilitary structures to awe. Visit the Varignano Roman Villa, an ancient Roman Villa which also features an archaeological museum.Back on the mainland, drive down to the harbour and enjoy the sight of the vividly coloured buildings on the high cliffs. Relax at a café and watch the boats passing through the narrow Le Bocche channel on their way to Cinque Terre.
You can spend the night in the beautiful Porto Venere. Stay at the Hotel Belvedere. The terrace offers panoramic views of the Gulf of La Spezia and the nearby island of Palmaria. After breakfast in the morning, drive back to Florence.
