Read moreOn the way stop in at the little town of Imola. It is infamous for Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari racetrack where Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzenberger lost their lives during the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix. Visit the lovely Cathedral of Imola and see the Sforza Castle.
Continue south through lovely broad hills, scattered with waterfalls and arrive at the small town of Forli. Stop and admire the Abbey of San Mercuriale and relax in the Parco Acque Minerali before continuing to the Roman town of Cesena.
When you arrive head for the beautiful Abbey of St Maria del Monte, set high up on the mountain. It has Europe's best collection of votive tables. See the Malatestiana Fortress built in 1380, historians will love the interesting octagonal shape with two main towers.
Book lovers must see the the Biblioteca Malatestiana, the first public library in Europe, listed in the Unesco Memory of the World Programme and opera lovers cannot miss a visit to the Teatro Comunale Alessandro Bonci. Stroll around in the grounds of the Palazzo Ghini and then relax at the lovely Masini Fountain. The delicate carved details will enchant the eye. Sports lovers must watch a match at the Stadio Dino Manuzzi La Fiorita Stadium.
End your day with a meal at the Restaurant Sfizi di Puglia before setting off back to Bologna.
