Start your explorations in Portofino itself. Spend time at the magnificent harbour renowned for its views of stunning yachts set against ancient colourful buildings.
Set off and pass the Cinque Terre, the Five Lands, a collection of small villages built into the high cliffs overhanging the ocean. Stop for a late breakfast of egg frittata or flat omelettes.
After spending the night at Santa Margherita, it’s off to see the marble quarries. Artists such as Michelangelo, Donatello and Bernini loved to use this famous Carrara marble for their works of art. See the Gulf of Poets and the charming village of Portovenere.
Then continue to Pisa. The iconic Leaning Tower is first on the list. This is said to be the place where Galileo developed his pendulum theory. See the splendid Duomo di Pisa and the Battistero. The Museo delle Sinopie is a treat for art lovers. Visit the Museo di San Matteo, a history and art museum, which houses almost all of the original artwork from all the churches in and around Pisa.
End your day relaxing and rejuvenating at the wonderful Casciana Terme. The natural thermal water here has been used since since ancient times.
